An optimist and pessimist walked into a bar, the realist was looking where he was going so avoided it.
I was trying to work out which of those I related to when coming out of Cassio park lock and noticing the 300 yard pound to the next lock was low on water. Was it pessimistic to think I could get stuck between the locks? Was it optimistic to think there was enough water to get all the way to where I could disembark and open the next lock gates? Well of course there was enough water to get almost all the way, but not close enough to jump ashore and too far to try to reverse all the way back. There I was stuck in the mud, no help from the towpath and light beginning to fade! I don’t often use my barge pole but they are really handy when needed.
